Une très belle collaboration entre l’altiste suisse et le pianiste français, enregistrée en studio sur deux jours en 2008. Ça vient de paraître – pourquoi plus de quatre ans plus tard? Aucune idée, mais ça méritait de sortir. Douze improvisations libres qui font ressortir, encore une fois, la sensibilité et l’originalité à tout crin de Hug.

A very fine collaboration between this Swiss violist and this French pianist, recorded in two days of studio work back in 2008. Why is this just coming out over four years after the fact, I don’t know, but it deserved to come out. Twelve free improvisations that highlight – once again – all of Hug’s sensitivity and originality.

MARCUS RUBIO & BILL SHUTE / Only the Imprint of an Echo Remains (Kendra Steiner Editions)

Le poète texan Bill Shute a proposé trois lectures de textes à l’artiste sonore Marcus Rubio, qui a dérivé de ces bandes quatre pièces électroacoustiques. Only the Imprint of an Echo Remains se compose de l’ensemble – les pièces travaillées et les lectures à nue, intercalées. Plus lo-fi que Annunciations de Fortner Anderson (cf. 2013-01-07), mais tout de même intéressant – et Anderson et Shute ont des intérêts similaires. La pièce titre est très réussie.

Texan poet Bill Shute offered three readings to sound artist Marcus Rubio, who derived four electroacoustic works from these tapes. Only the Imprint of an Echo Remains features all seven tracks – the electroacoustic pieces and the raw readings, interspersed. More lo-fi than Fortner Anderson’s Annunciations (see 2013-01-07), though still interesting – and Anderson and Shute share similar interests. The title track is very well done.

CLOSE EMBRACE OF THE EARTH / At the Spirits Rejoice Festival 2004 (eh?)

Publié en 2012, mais enregistré en concert en 2004. Close Embrace of the Earth est un trio américain d’improvisation libre composé de Mike Khoury (violon), Piotr Michalowski (saxo soprano, clarinette basse) et Hans Buetow (basse, électronique). Improvisation libre à l’européenne, essentiellement, avec un quelque chose de Billy Bang dans le violon. Il y a parfois de belles arabesques entre violon et saxo – dans le rappel, particulièrement.

Released in 2012 but recorded live in 2004. Close Embrace of the Earth is a US free improvisation trio consisting of Mike Khoury (violin), Piotr Michalowski (soprano sax, bass clarinet), and Hans Buetow (bass, electronics). European-style free improvisation, mostly, with something of Billy Bang in the violin. Some gorgeous arabesques between violin and sax, especially in the encore.
