PQ / You’ll Never Find Us Here (Expanding Records - merci à/thanks to Dense Promotion)

PQ est un duo belge: Samir Bekaert et Maarten Vanderwalle. Ce disque propose une musique planante, cinématique (mot utilisé à bon escient ici), qui allie acoustique (guitares surtout) et électronique (chill, un peu de glitch). Doux, gentil, un peu mélancolique, rythmé, agréable, berçant. Pas très marquant, mais on s’y attacherait facilement.

PQ is a Belgian duo: Samir Bekaert and Maarten Vanderwalle. This record delivers trippy, cinematic music (and yes, “cinematic” is the right word here), blending acoustic (mostly guitars) and electronic (chill, with some glitch) sources. Quiet, gentle, nice, a little melancholy, beat-driven, lulling. Not quite remarkable, but you could easily grow fond of it.

Ça, c’était rigolo. Ni est un quatuor allemand de rock d’avant-garde, trois guitares et une batterie. Leur nom vient d’un célèbre passage du film Monty Python and the Holy Grail où il est question de buissons. Ni joue un rock dissonant et complexe qui rappelle, d’un côté, La Société des Timides à la Parade des Oiseaux et, de l’autre, Les 4 Guitaristes de l’Apocalypso-Bar ou The Orthotonics. Ce premier album est paru en format vinyle et propose six pièces, toutes introduites par un passage tiré d’un film, question de bien se décontextualiser avant de passer à l’action. Sympa, humoristique, parfois agressif, avec une pointe d’amateurisme assumé plutôt comme une attitude de je-ne-me-prends-pas-au-sérieux. [Ci-dessous: Pour preuve, un extrait de concert.]

Now, THAT was fun! Ni is a German avant-rock quartet (three guitarists and a drummer). They take their name from a famous scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (you know, something about shrubbery?). Ni plays dissonant complex rock music bringing to mind La Société des Timides à la Parade des Oiseaux on the one hand, Les 4 Guitaristes de l’Apocalypso-Bar or The Orthotonics on the other. This debut album is out on LP only and features six tracks, all introduced by a snippet stolen from a film, just to decontextualize things before leaping into action. Fun, humourous, occasionally aggressive, with a touch of amateurism that translates into a I-don’t-take-myself-seriously-so-why-should-you attitude. [Ci-dessous: Exhibit A, this live footage.]
