CHRISTOPHE SCHILLER & LEA DANZEISEN / 47°13’ N 7°E (Creative Sources)
Ce disque est le dernier de la récente fournée envoyée
par Creative Sources (voir les entrées précédentes). Schiller et Danzeisen
jouent de l’épinette (un vieil instrument à clavier appartenant à la famille du
clavecin), ou plutôt ils utilisent l’épinette comme corps résonant.
Grattements, frottements, coups, utilisation de diverses préparations – bref,
ça aurait pu être un piano ou même une contrebasse. Deux longues improvisations
qui m’ont laissé froid. Soit ces pièces manquent de développement et épuisent
rapidement leurs idées, soit je ne suis vraiment pas réceptif ce matin.

Creative Sources sent me (see previous entries). Schiller and Danzeisen play
the spinett – an old keyboard instrument in the same family as the harpsichord
– or rather, they use the spinett as a resounding body. They scratch, pat, hit,
and use various preparations on the wood and the strings – it could have been a
grand piano, or even a doublebass. Two long improvisations that left me cold.
Either these pieces lack development and quickly run out of ideas, or I’m really
not receptive to this kind of thing this morning.
KAOS PROTOKOLL / Quick
& Dirty (Unit Records)
Un disque fort amusant, même s’il pèche par excès à
force de trop vouloir divertir. Kaos Protokoll est un trio (essentiellement
sax, basse électrique et batterie) de jazz groové qui fusionne jazz rock,
groove à la MM&W et influences dub. “Poulet mit Joghurt” rappelle
l’avant-prog, “Le Désert” est très dub, etc. On a même droit à une conclusion
eh plaint-chant et à une apparition d’Andreas Schaerer (Hildegard lernt
fliegen) sur une pièce. “Lovesong”, par contre, est un pénible deux minutes
ponctué de rots disgracieux – là c’est trop. Pour le reste, Quick &
Dirty vit bien son éclectisme, grâce à beaucoup d’idées
folles (et d’électroniques) qui comblent les quelques lacunes dans l’écriture.
A very entertaining record, although it tries to
hard to entertain. Kaos Protokoll is a groovy jazz trio (basically sax, ebass
and drums) blending jazz rock with MM&W-style grooves and dub leanings.
“Poulet mit Joghury” has the complexity of avant-prog; “Le Désert” is very
dub-like, etc. There’s even a plainsong bit at the end of the album, and a
guest appearance from Hildegard lernt fliegen’s Andreas Schaerer. At the other
end of the spectrum, there’s “Lovesong”, two minutes of stupid waltzing
punctuated by burps – that’s going too far for nothing. Otherwise, Quick
& Dirty wears its eclecticism well, thanks to a lot of wild ideas (and
electronics) that compensate for some shortcomings in the writing.

Enrico Marani (Samora) produit de belles musiques
ambiantes. Elles sont simples, délicates, et s’approchent beaucoup du
nouvel-âge – un peu trop parfois. Chacune des six pièces de ce disque est
accompagnée d’un lecture (par Christine Hanson) de textes de Franco Bertossa.
Ces textes pseudo-mystiques ne m’ont pas parlé, mais la musique à ses moments
forts, particulièrement dans la pièce titre.
Enrico Marani (Samora) produces nice ambient music.
His pieces are simple, delicate, and get very close to New Age music – a little
too close at times. Each of the six tracks is accompanied by a reading (by
Christine Hanson) of a text by Franco Bertossa. These pseudo-mystical texts
didn’t do much for me, but the music has its highlights, especially in the
title track.
WIRES UNDER TENSION / Replicant (Western
Vinyl)
Oh wow, ce nouveau disque de Christopher Tignor est
splendide: des pièces instrumentales complexes mais accessibles, aux rythmes
enlevants, en enchevêtrements de couches sonores. La réalisation de l’album est
très électroniques – il s’agit d’échantillons, de boucles, de logiciels de
toutes sortes – mais le résultat sonne très vivant. La présence d’un vrai
batteur y est pour beaucoup. Musique inclassable, complexe mais festive,
sérieuse mais très “pop”. Impressionnant.

Oh wow, this new record by Christopher Tignor is
just great: complex yet accessible instrumentals, with driving beats and
intermingly layers of sounds. The album’s production is a big electronic affair
– samples, loops, custom-built software instruments – but the results sound
lively. The adjunction of a real drummer has a lot to do with it.
Unclassifiable music, complex yet festive, serious yet quite pop-oriented.
