ROBERT LIPPOK / Redsuperstructure (Raster-Noton - merci à/thanks to Forced Exposure)
Rythmes clippés, précision chirurgicale, architectures inorthodoxes mais très soignées – la techno minimaliste de Robert Lippok frise parfois la perfection formelle. C’est le cas ici. Et dans le genre, ce disque n’est pas aussi froid qu’on pourrait le croire.
Clipped beats, surgical precision, unorthodox and sophisticated architectures – Robert Lippok’s minimal techno occasionally flirts with perfection. That’s what’s happening here. And Redsuperstructure is not as cold you might expect from that kind of music
JOACHIM NORDWALL / Ignition (Ash International - merci à/thanks to Forced Exposure)
Deuxième album solo de Joachim Nordwall (du groupe The Skull Defekts). Une seule pièce, 50 minutes, un long bourdon épuré. Ça bouge lentement, sans m’impressioner réellement. J’ai entendu plus “senti”, plus immersif, plus renversant dans le genre.
A second solo album from Joachim Nordwall (of The Skull Defekts). A single 50-minute track, a long stripped-down drone. The music moves slowly, and I’m not really impressed. I have heard more heartfelt, immersive and striking efforts in that genre.
C’est le cinquième album de ce groupe écartillé entre le Vermont et le Colorado, mais c’est la première fois que j’entends leur musique. Mélange de folk-rock des grands espaces et de pop alternative tordue, quelque part entre les Sun City Girls et Less Pain Forever. Un côté hillbilly, un côté punk DIY, un côté retour à la terre autodérisoire (je pense aux Petals), un côté rock indie néo-zélandais aussi. This is the fifth album by the Vermont/Colorado-scattered Happy Jawbone Family Band, although it’s my first exposure to their music. A blend of wide-space folk rock and twited alternative pop, somewhere between the Sun City Girls and Less Pain Forever. A hillbilly side, a punk/DIY side, a self-mocking retro-agricultural side (I’m thinking of The Petals), a Neo-Zealander indie rock side too. All that condensed into 12 songs across 38 minutes, and delivered with obvious glee. I definitely like it. [Below: Listen to three songs on this page.]
BLACK PUSSY / On Blonde (Made in China Records)Du gros rock américain. Son vintage, pochette rétro, tendance stoner, chansons sur l’amour, la drogue et l’indignation. Un fort côté Queens of the Stone Age. Bien enregistré, arrangements simples mais efficaces, et certaines chansons (comme “Marijuana” et “Blow Some Steam Off”) sont efficaces. Big fat American rock music. Vintage sound, retro artwork, stoner leanings, songs about love, drugs and indignation. A strong Queens of the Stone Age influence. Well recorded, arrangements are simple but effective, and some songs (like “Marijuana” and “Blow Some Steam Off”) are memorable. [Below: The first single “Blow Some Steam Off” is free to download.]
