SKY BURIAL / Kiehtan (Lens Records - merci à/thanks to Dense Promotion)
Une solide pièce ambiante de 41 minutes signée Michael Page ou Sky Burial. De l’ambiant électronique post-industriel, à cheval entre le sombre et le zen, avec un passage central où, à force de superposer et d’amplifier les couches sonores, les choses deviennent vraiment intenses. Plus une “reconstruction” de six minutes signée Mark Spybey. Mais l’intérêt est vraiment dans la pièce principale, un drone viscéral. [Ci-dessous: Écoutez un extrait de “Kiehtan” sur cette page.]
A strong 41-minute ambient track by Michael Page aka Sky Burial. Post-Industrial electronic ambient, on the fence between darkness and Zen, with a central passage where superimposed layers of sounds end up totalling something really intense. DEAD MEAT / The King + Early Recordings (Flingco Sound - merci à/thanks to Dense Promotion)
Un rock pesant métissé d’industriel (dans l’attitude). Un 7” (“The King” plus “Electric Head” et la lancinante “Rubber Snake”) accompagné d’un code de téléchargement pour Early Recordings qui regroupe neuf pièces (dont les trois du single). Le tout fait 25 minutes: court, punché, sombre. Pas mal du tout.
Heavy rock blended in with industrial rock (the attitude). A 7” (“The King” plus “Electric Head” and the headlong “Rubber Snake”) coming with a download code for Early Recordings, a set of nine tracks (the single’s three included). The whole thing is 25 minutes long: short, punchy, dark. Not bad at all.
LIMBER LUMBER / Diapassion (Unit Records)
Un trio piano-contrebasse-batterie très mélodique, très post-Tristano, très européen. Très joli aussi. Habituellement, je me blase rapidement de ce genre de disque, mais Diapassion offre une qualité d’écriture remarquable et un mélodisme aguichant sans être sirupeux. Simplement, il y a de foutus beaux airs sur ce disque. Une écoute très facile et agréable pour souper en tête-à-tête.
A melody-driven piano/bass/drums trio, very post-Tristano like, very European. Very nice too. I usually get easily bored with this kind of record, but Diapassion brings strong songwriting to the table, and a seductive melodicism (without getting sickly sweet). Simply put, this record holds some damn fine tunes. An easy listen for a quiet evening with your significant other.
THIBAULT FALK QUARTET / Sur le fil (Unit Records)
Un quatuor cosmopolite dirigé par le pianiste français Thibault Falk. Bon, là, ça fait trop de joli jazz mou. Limber Lumber passait bien, mais Sur le fil manque de chair pour mes crocs. Bref, je m’ennuie. Et c’est long. Peu d’aventure et d’invention.
A cosmopolitan quartet led by French pianist Thibault Falk. Okay, now it gets to soft jazz for me. Limber Lumber went down well, but Sur le fil lacks the kind of meat my teeth want to sink into. In other words, I’m bored. And it’s a long record. Little boldness, little invention.
