SPRINGINTGUT / Where We Need No

Andi Otto est de retour après six ans d’absence sur
disque, avec un troisième album de son projet Springintgut. Dans l’intervalle,
il s’est inventé un violoncelle muni d’un archet dont les mouvements modulent
le traitement sonore de l’instrument. Ce “fello” est au centre de Where We
Need No Map. Des voyages au Japon, au Sri Lanka et en Inde
alimentent aussi le disque, ici d’enregistrements de terrain (“Bangalore
Kids”), là de collaborations (Sasha Perera chante sur deux morceaux). Les
électroniques complètent la palette sonore de ce disque d’électro métissée,
bien rythmée, joyeuse, parfois ambiante, avec un côté mystérieux (voire
exotique).
Andi Otto is back after a six-year hiatus on
record, with a third album under his moniker Springintgut. In the meantime, he
has invented a cello with a sensor-fitted bow whose movements alter the sound
treatment of the instrument. This “fello” is at the heart of Where
We Need No Map. Travels to Japan, Sri Lanka and India also inform the album,
here with field recordings (“Bangalore Kids”), there through collaborations
(Sasha Perera sings on two tracks). Electronics round up the sound palette of
this hybrid electronica, beat-driven and playful, ambient at times, with a
mysterious, exotic side.
DEMDIKE STARE / Elemental (Modern
Love)
La panne d’inspiration, le duo Demdike Stare (Miles
Whittaker et Sean Canty) ne connaît pas. Le groupe a suivi son album triple Triptych
(splendide) de 2011 avec un double, Elemental, en 2012. La
recette demeure essentiellement inchangée: mélange d’électro ambiante, de dub
et de drone expérimental. Le tout très sombre sans devenir lourd, élégant sans
devenir froid, avec beaucoup de profondeur de couches et une finition
impeccable. Personnellement, j’opte pour Demdike Stare à la place de n’importe
quel disque de Burial. Le deuxième disque d’Elemental est un
peu plus expérimental, évoquant Forest of Evil, le premier volet

Shortness of inspiration? Doesn’t seem to be a
problem for Demdike Stare (Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty). The duo followed-up
their triple CD set Triptych (2011) with a double CD entitled
Elemental in 2012. The recipe remains largely unchanged: a blend of
ambient electronica, dub, and experimental drone music. It’s very dark but
doesn’t get heavy, elegant without getting cold, with lots of depth in the
layers, and impeccable artistry. Personally, I’ll take Demdike Stare any day in
lieu of Burial. Elemental’s disc 2 is a tad bit more
experimental-sounding, not unlike Forest of Evil (disc 1 of Triptych).
