ADIEU FANTÔME / Aucun animal (ind.)

Un projet québécois de musique électronique. Aucun animal est un album distribué gratuitement (lien ci-dessus) et paru en mai 2010. Il commence en mode Legendary Pink Dots pour passer ensuite à quelque chose de plus électro avec une touche industrielle et beaucoup d’échantillons de voix trouvées. J’ai bien aimé “This is America” et “We Want Peace”. Le reste a des longueurs et des moments manquant d’inventivité, mais il y a là du talent et de la manière.

A Quebecois electronic music project. Aucun animal is a freely distributed album (link above) released in May 2010. It starts in Legendary Pink Dots mode, then switches to something more electronica-like, with an Industrial touch and lots of found voice samples. I’m quite fond of “This is America” and “We Want Peace,” but the rest of the album features overlong passages and moments of lustre-lacking invention. Still, I hear talent and skill in these tracks.

ADIEU FANTÔME / Chants du Westboro (ind.)

Celui-ci est un mini-album (17 minutes), plus intéressant à mon avis. Intéressant mélange d’ambiances synthétiques expérimentales à la Legendary Pink Dots, de voix tirées de films et de disques de croissance personnelle (possiblement), de rythmes lancinants. Pas super original, mais bien fait. Et gratuit! (lien ci-dessus).

This one is an EP (17 minutes), and it’s better in my opinion. Interesting blend of experimental synthetic ambiances a la Legendary Pink Dots, vocals taken from movies and self-help records (I think), and languid beats. Not super-original, but well done. And free! (Link above).

BASIL KIRCHIN / Primitive London (Trunk Records - merci à/thanks to Forced Exposure)

Deux trames sonores de Basil Kirchin: Primitive London, un film de 1965, très étrange, type exploitation/Mondo, aux images frappantes et cruelles. La musique est tout à fait dans les intérêts de Jonny Trunk: groovy, kitsch, mais intelligente aussi. En bonus, la trame de The Freelance, plus jazzée, avec des passages assez “free” pour l’époque. Très sympa. Pour les amateurs de trames sonores mythiques (comme La Planète sauvage).

Two soundtracks by Basil Kirchin: Primitive London, a cult movie from 1965, very strange in a exploitation/Mondo vein, with striking and cruel images. The music is totally within the range of Jonny Trunk’s interests: groovy, kitsch, and intelligent. As a bonus, the soundtrack to The Freelance, jazzier, with rather “free” passages for the times. Quite nice. Fans of mythical soundtracks (like La Planète sauvage) will enjoy.
