J’ai redonné une écoute à ce disque tôt ce matin. Quel délice! Superbe musique pour piano préparé, inspirée, truffée de surprises et de moments de pure beauté.

Gave this CD another spin very early this morning, and what a treat it is! Beautiful music for prepared piano, very inspired, full of surprises and moments of pure esthetic ecstasy.

Troisième disque de ce duo, le meilleur à ce jour: des musiques ambiantes, à base de guitare, violoncelle et électroniques. Pièces courtes, magnifiquement fignolées, évoquant une certaine tendresse. Une musique discrète, qui ne s’impose pas, mais qui charme, malgré la recherche artistique avancée qui la sous-tend.

Third CD by this duo, their best to date: ambient tunes constructed from guitar, cello, and electronics. Short, superbly-chiselled pieces imbued with a certain level of tenderness. Quiet music that won’t impose itself but can charm nonetheless, despite the advanced artistic research it builds upon.

Sous-titre: “Orchestrated psychedelia from the USA.” Le premier volume de Realistic Patterns demeure ma compilation préférée chez Psychic Circle et, à première écoute, cette seconde sélection en est la digne égale. Elle se concentre sur des obscurités américaines des années fin 60 et début 70, dans le domaine de la pop psychédélique avec cordes ou cuivres. One-hit wonders et artistes passés sous silence, mais qui, pendant un bref instant, ont trouvé l’inspiration pour de jolies et joyeuses chansons délurées. À souligner: “Not a Whole Lot I Can Do” de Silk, “Dr. David’s Private Papers” de Peter Courtney et “Wednesday Morning Dew” de Majic Ship.

The subtitle: “Orchestrated psychedelia from the USA.” Volume 1 of Realistic Patterns remains my favorite compilation CD from Psychic Circle and, on first listen, this second round is on par with the first. The series focuses on obscure US singles of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s in psychedelic pop arranged with strings and brass instruments. One-hit wonders and artists never really heard from who, for a brief shining moment, tapped a well of inspiration that yielded fun and pretty unusual songs. Worth mentioning are Silk’s “Not a Whole Lot I Can Do,” “Dr. David’s Private Papers” bby Peter Courtney, and Majic Ship’s “Wednesday Morning Dew.”

Sous-titre: “16 lost US femvox classics”. On parle ici de chanteuses folk (je déteste le terme “femvox”!). Les femmes n’ont jamais eu le haut du pavé sur la scène commerciale, que ce soit dans la folk ou la pop. Cette compilation ressort quelques jolies faces de 45 tours enregistrées par des femmes de cœur et d’idées. Certaines sont trop dérivatives pour être intéressantes, mais d’autres touchent dans le mille, comme Penny Nichols, Dayle Stanley, Rosalie Sorrels, et le duo Lily & Maria. Certaines de ces chansons ont un côté très psychédélique aussi.

Subtitle: “16 lost US femvox classics” – I hate the term “femvox”! We’re talking female folk singers here. Women have never been at the top of the commercial music food chain, sadly I might add. This comp digs out some nice sides from strong-willed and inspired women. Some of these songs are too derivative to catch the attention, but others strike a cord, like Penny Nichols, Dayle Stanley, Rosalie Sorrels, and Lily & Maria. Some of these songs also have a strong psychedelic side to them.

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. / Have You Seen the Other Side of the Sky? (Ace Fu Records)

Paru en 2006, peu avant Myth of the Love Electrique, Have You Seen the Other Side of the Sky? présente une formation transitoire, avec Tsuyama, Higashi, Kawabata (le noyau dur), le batteur Uki Eiji, Ono Ryoko au saxo et à la flûte, plus la chanteuse “érotique” Nao. C’est un disque planant et sensuel, bien enregistré. Les pièces qui bougent le font assez poliment; celles qui planent le font sans arrière-pensée. Nao se fait aller à coups de soupirs et de hahanements sur “Asimo’s Naked Breakfast”; on a droite à un arrangement de voix bien senti sur “Interplanetary Love”; enfin, “The Tales of Solar Sail” est un riff ultra simple à la Hawkwind, medium tempo, planant mais ouvert aux excès et très bien exécuté, dans toute l’opulence orgiaque d’Acid Mothers Temple.

Released in 2006, shortly before Myth of the Love Electrique, Have You Seen the Other Side of the Sky? features a short-lived intermediate line-up, with Tsuyama, Higashi, Kawabata (AMT’S nucleus), drummer Uki Eiji, Ono Ryoko on sax/flute, and “erotic” female singer Nao. It’s a pretty trippy and sensual record, well recorded. The dynamic tracks remain polite, and the trippy ones don’t have an ulterior motif. Nao cuts loose in “Asimo’s Naked Breakfast,” an orgy of sighs and pants; “Interplanetary Love” features a strong vocal arrangement, and; “The Tales of Solar Sail” features an ultra-simple Hawkind-like medium tempo riff, well done, trippy, open to the orgiastic excesses of Acid Mothers Temple.
