THE CLAUDIA QUINTET +1 / What is the Beautiful? (Cuneiform Records)
A strong and consequential proposition from John Hollenbeck’s Claudia Quintet: a cycle of compositions on poems by Kenneth Patchen. The writing is typically Claudia-like: avant-jazz crossed with post-rock and progressive rock. Three instrumentals, five pieces adorned with readings of Patchen by Kurt Elling, and four pieces sung by Theo Bleckmann. Intelligent and moving, and Patchen’s peculiar humor is well showcased.  [Below: An excerpt from “Job.”]

DEAD CAT BOUNCE / Chance Episodes (Cuneiform Records)
I had found this band’s debut CD interesting, but nothing more. Chance Episodes shows a strong progression in the writing of its leader, saxophonist Matt Steckler. Firm grooves, complex twists, a fine cohesion throughout the album. However, it’s still very jazzy music.

  1. The best automatic dog feeders will solve this challenge very intuitively. These automatic feeders will dispense your dog a meal whenever they need to eat without much monitoring needed from your side… and you don’t even need to be home!
